Oriental Churches

Oriental Churches
   This term (from the Latin oriens, meaning "the rising sun" or "the east") refers to the Eastern Churches in general and, specifically, to those Oriental Churches that separated from the other Eastern Churches in the early centuries ofChristianity; in this specific sense, the Oriental Churches are distinguished from the Orthodox Churches that separated from the Western Church in 1054.
